Alz·hei·mer’s disease  (älts?h?-m?rz, ?lts?-, ôlts?-, ôlz?-)n. A degenerative disease of the brain, occurring chiefly in elderly people and characterized by disorientation, memory failure, speech disturbances, and the progressive loss of mental capacity.
